Apple TV! Is the future really here?

From the first look of the new Apple TV the product seems to have the quality of blending in the environment and letting you experience its uniqueness through the functionality of your television. A product that is twice the size now of its predecessor and comes with a fancy SIRI remote; Apple really didn’t put much effort styling the design of the new Apple TV.

Where is does shine though is; the wide variety of apps that it supports and the way Apple has programmed SIRI to utilize the functions over voice commands. Although this may seem very futuristic it is still a little far from the reality. The reason I say this is because right now SIRI is only able to provide a voice over feedback to video apps such as Netflix and Hulu. When you ask SIRI to play a song from your playlist or look up apps the results come up as “I cannot help you with this”. And its a shame! For a product that is dedicated to providing its user an ease from typing; Apple just allows big players like Netflix and Hulu to provide a search result.

Apart from SIRI; one big disappointment for me at least is the screen resolution. In a time where 4K is booming and many companies are pushing limits to produce a sophisticated viewing pleasure, The Apple TV still provides 1080p source screening. What that means is that even if you have a 4K television your limited by the source resolution that limits you from viewing your television’s true resolution.

But not all is bad. Apps that take advantage of a bigger screen allows you to view the apps from your Iphone on The Apple TV. And I personally like it. Having the convenience to not look at your phone every time and viewing things at a bigger angle makes me happy.
And if you get bored while watching movies then you play games on your Apple TV without switching devices. Even though most of these games are designed for your Iphone or Ipad; its just nice to know that they are waiting for you in the background without having you to physically switch platforms.

So whats the verdict? In all honesty Apple TV has great functionality and to me at least a good price point. Where it lacks is in the apps sections. As the number of apps are limited for the use of Apple TV we just have to wait till the developers get their hands on the new Apple TV software, and start producing apps dedicated to the product. This will open up a new horizon of potential and we will be able to see some true hands free experience. Also; and this is just me being very specific. I will wait till the next Apple TV os comes out that would support a better screen resolution and will have an array of apps by successful developers. Yes having SIRI is nice but with a little more typing gestures I can make my older generation Apple TV work the same way as the new one.

  1. Great post! I definitely agree with the issues regarding SIRI, Apple do need to sort that out as it’s ability is very limited. Looking forward to reading your post on the next version of the TV whenever it does come out! 😊
